چکیده

The SYNTAX [Synergy Between percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) With Taxus and coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG)] score is a decision-making tool in interventional cardiology. However, several facts still remain to be addressed: What about PCI or CABG with a low versus a high score respectively? And what about PCI with a low score versus CABG with a high score? Electronic databases were carefully searched for relevant publications. Odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated and the analysis was carried out by RevMan 5.3. Eleven studies with a total number of 11,037 patients were included. In terms of clinical outcomes, this analysis showed PCI to have significantly favored patients with a low versus a high SYNTAX score. In patients who were re-vascularized by CABG, mortality and major adverse cardiac events were significantly lower with a low SYNTAX score. However, when PCI with a low SYNTAX score was compared with CABG with a high SYNTAX score, no significant difference in mortality and combined death/stroke/myocardial infarction were observed. In conclusion, the SYNTAX score might be considered useful in interventional cardiology. Nevertheless, the fact that it has limitations when compared to newer tools should also not be ignored.

The effect of prior percutaneous coronary intervention on the immediate and late outcome after coronary artery bypass grafting: systematic review and meta-analysis

INTRODUCTION A number of studies reported on a possible increased risk of morbidity and mortality after coronary artery bypass grafting in patients with prior percutaneous coronary intervention. METHODS A systematic review and meta-analysis of studies comparing the outcome of patients undergoing coronary surgery with or without prior percutaneous coronary intervention was performed. Only stud...

Platelet-To-Lymphocyte Ratio as a Predictor of No-Reflow after Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Patients with ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Introduction: No-reflow increases the complications and mortality rate of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Therefore, it is important to identify patients at a higher risk of developing no-reflow. This study aimed to systematically review the prognostic value of the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) to predict no-reflow. Materials and Methods:</s...

The Relation of Serum Bilirubin Level with the Severity and Complexity of Coronary Artery Disease and Long-term Outcomes in the Patients Undergoing Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

Background and Aims: Bilirubin has been considered an antioxidant that protects against atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship of serum bilirubin level with the severity and complexity of coronary artery disease (CAD) and long-term outcome in the patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Materials and Methods: This prospective coho...

SYNTAX score based on coronary computed tomography angiography may have a prognostic value in patients with complex coronary artery disease

The SYNergy between percutaneous coronary intervention with TAXus and cardiac surgery (SYNTAX) score is an invasive coronary angiography (ICA)-based score for quantifying the complexity of coronary artery disease (CAD). Although the SYNTAX score was originally developed based on ICA, recent publications have reported that coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is a feasible modality fo...

Percutaneous coronary intervention versus cardiac bypass surgery for left main coronary artery disease

BACKGROUND Several updated meta-analyses comparing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) for left main coronary artery disease (LM CAD) have been published recently. However, the risk of false-positive results could be high in conventional updated meta-analyses due to repetitive testing of accumulating data. Therefore, we compared these treatment a...
